Válka v Gaze, trvá od října loňského roku. Je jednou z nejtragičtějších humanitárních katastrof současnosti. Jako poutník, který navštívil několikrát jak Izrael, tak Palestinu, cítím povinnost veřejně se vymezit vůči násilí – ať už přichází odkudkoliv. Vůči brutálnímu zacházení se zajatci Hamásu, i vůči zabraňování distribuce humanitární pomoci pro Palestince. Šílený a zbabělý útok Hamásu na izraelské civilisty 7. října, stejně jako následná ničivá ofenzíva izraelské armády v Gaze, přinesly smrt a utrpení nevinných lidí. Válka si vyžádala přes 41 tisíc palestinských životů, většinou civilistů, a zanechala téměř dva miliony lidí bez domova. To není obrana, či cokoliv jiného, to je tragédie.

Vyzývám každého, kdo může, aby pomohl. Rozhodně je to lepší než hysterické výjevy některých našich politických reprezentantů. Finančně, materiálně, modlitbou, sdílením ověřených informací. Ale zároveň prosím: nenechme se zatáhnout do propagandy, kterou Hamás opravdu skvěle umí a minimálně dva izraelští ministři ve svém běsnění to prakticky umocňují. Dezinformační kampaně, které šíří jak palestinské, tak izraelské zájmové skupiny – často s podporou světových velmocí jako je Rusko nebo Čína – mají jediný cíl: rozdělit, rozdělovat, znejistit a manipulovat, ovládat.

Konflikt má hluboké historické kořeny. Vznik státu Izrael, vyhnání Palestinců, okupace, blokády, terorismus, osady – to vše tvoří spletitou síť příčin a následků. Ale uprostřed toho všeho jsou lidé. Děti, matky, otcové, staří lidé. Chtělo by se s Josefem Švejkem zvolat naprosto vážně "Co blázníte, vždyť tady jsou lidi." Obnovení izraelské ofenzivy po křehkém příměří, které mělo být rozfázováno a vedeno k dalším jednáním, ukazuje, jak snadno se politické zájmy mohou stát důležitějšími, než živí lidé. Podle izraelských komentátorů jde v mnoha ohledech o vnitropolitický tah premiéra Netanjahua, který se snaží naplnit očekávání svých koaličních partnerů.

Gaza není jen místo zpravodajských titulků. Je to domov. Místo, kde lidé žijí, milují, trpí. Mnozí z nich nikdy neopustili své uprchlické tábory. Polovina obyvatel jsou děti. A dnes nemají ani přístup k pitné vodě, jídlu, zdravotní péči. Gaza se podle OSN proměnila v "mrtvou zónu". Když svatý František z Assisi vyšel beze zbraně vstříc Saladinovi, během křížových výprav, nešlo o naivitu. Šlo o odvahu. O víru v to, že lidskost může překonat nenávist. I dnes potřebujeme taková gesta. Ne zbraně, ale odvahu k dialogu, empatii a pravdě. Čeho jsme bohužel svědky je jen vlažné předvolební žvanění, obzvlášť ze strany těch, kteří bezskrupulózně podporují Ruskou agresi na Ukrajině.

Západní břeh Jordánu se dusí pod blokádami, násilím a ekonomickým kolapsem. Izraelci žijí ve strachu z raket a únosů. Palestinci v Gaze umírají na běžně léčitelné nemoci. A svět? Mlčí, nebo se hádá na sociálních sítích. Rodiny unesených Izraelců dnes protestují v ulicích Tel Avivu. Cítí se být zrazeny. Jejich bolest je stejně skutečná jako bolest matek v Gaze. Pokud chceme být skutečně lidští, musíme vidět obě strany – a odmítnout, aby byly lidské životy obětovány ve jménu politických her.

Pokud vás zajímá opravdu detailněji dění v Gaze, je fajn se podívat na některé zpravodajské servery, které dle mého názoru přinášejí zpravodajství poněkud bližší realitě. Viz odkazy pod čarou. To, co je opravdu tragické, a to říkám z pohledu křesťana, je fakt, že české církve mlčí. Raději se jdou klanět neznámému "neexistujícímu" hrdinovi, než aby se zvedli a jasně deklarovali Kristovo poselství, alespoň tak, jak to učinil sv. František. Není se však čemu divit. Mnozí představitelé církví jsou i dnes pozůstatkem státní tajné bezpečnosti a jiných struktur, po roce 1990 - napojených na byznysovou sféru. Jako věřící člověk proto jednoznačně protestuji proti násilí páchanému na palestinských civilistech a proti brutalitě izraelských civilistů. Násilí považuji za nepřijatelné a přeji si, aby abdikoval nejen Netanjahu a jeho vláda, ale zároveň s tím, aby kapituloval bezvýhradně i Hamás. Pokud to diplomacii nejde, pak Bůh chraň tuto civilizaci.

The War in Gaza Must Not Eclipse Our Compassion

The war in Gaza has been ongoing since October last year. It is one of the most tragic humanitarian disasters of our time. As a pilgrim who has visited both Israel and Palestine several times, I feel compelled to publicly denounce violence—regardless of its origin. Against the brutal treatment of Hamas captives, and against the prevention of humanitarian aid distribution to Palestinians. The insane and cowardly attack by Hamas on Israeli civilians on October 7, as well as the subsequent devastating offensive by the Israeli army in Gaza, have brought death and suffering to innocent people. The war has claimed over 41,000 Palestinian lives, mostly civilians, and left nearly two million people homeless. This is not defense, or anything else, this is a tragedy.

I urge everyone who can to help. It is certainly better than the hysterical outbursts of some of our political representatives. Financially, materially, through prayer, sharing verified information. But at the same time, please: let us not be drawn into propaganda, which Hamas is really good at, and at least two Israeli ministers in their frenzy practically amplify it. Disinformation campaigns spread by both Palestinian and Israeli interest groups—often with the support of global powers like Russia or China—have a single goal: to divide, to sow discord, to unsettle and manipulate, to control.

The conflict has deep historical roots. The creation of the state of Israel, the expulsion of Palestinians, occupation, blockades, terrorism, settlements—all these form a complex web of causes and effects. But in the midst of it all are people. Children, mothers, fathers, elderly people. One would want to seriously exclaim with Josef Švejk, "What are you crazy, there are people here." The resumption of the Israeli offensive after a fragile truce, which was supposed to be phased and lead to further negotiations, shows how easily political interests can become more important than living people. According to Israeli commentators, in many respects, it is an internal political move by Prime Minister Netanyahu, who is trying to meet the expectations of his coalition partners.

Gaza is not just a place in the news headlines. It is home. A place where people live, love, suffer. Many of them have never left their refugee camps. Half of the population are children. And today they do not even have access to clean water, food, medical care. According to the UN, Gaza has turned into a "dead zone." When Saint Francis of Assisi walked unarmed to meet Saladin during the Crusades, it was not naivety. It was courage. A belief that humanity can overcome hatred. Today, we need such gestures. Not weapons, but the courage for dialogue, empathy, and truth. Unfortunately, what we are witnessing is just lukewarm pre-election chatter, especially from those who unscrupulously support Russian aggression in Ukraine.

The West Bank is suffocating under blockades, violence, and economic collapse. Israelis live in fear of rockets and kidnappings. Palestinians in Gaza die from treatable diseases. And the world? It is silent, or arguing on social media. The families of kidnapped Israelis are protesting in the streets of Tel Aviv today. They feel betrayed. Their pain is as real as the pain of mothers in Gaza. If we want to be truly human, we must see both sides—and refuse to let human lives be sacrificed in the name of political games.

What is really tragic, and I say this from a Christian perspective, is the fact that Czech churches are silent. They would rather bow to an unknown "non-existent" hero than stand up and clearly declare Christ's message, at least as Saint Francis did. It is not surprising. Many church leaders are still remnants of the state secret police and other structures, after 1990—connected to the business sphere. As a believer, I therefore unequivocally protest against the violence committed against Palestinian civilians and against the brutality of Israeli civilians. I consider violence unacceptable and wish for the resignation of not only Netanyahu and his government but also for the unconditional capitulation of Hamas. If diplomacy fails, then God save this civilization.
